Guaranteed
Job Placement in Thailand, and ESL EFL Recruiters in
Thailand
It's easy enough
to land a good job Teaching English in Thailand.
You
really don't need any help.
Beware of
"guaranteed job placement" schemes and of recruiters who
will "place" you in a job - or interview you for a job
or school that they are not directly employed by.
Why?
It is not
uncommon for placement staff, agencies, agents and/or
recruiters to place you at a school and
receive - in exchange for "finding you" for the school -
a portion of your wages EVERY MONTH.
Example: A
recruiter places you at XYZ school and offers you a wage
of 38,000 baht per month. The real wage of the job
may well be 43,000 baht and the recruiter is collecting
B5,000 every month from your labor.
Fair Enough?
Part of the
issue with this is that they often won't tell you - it
is all hidden away. And the other issue with it is
that it might be fine for a month or two - given you
were informed - but month after month after month?
After a year you are talking B60,000! Almost six
weeks of wages?
Up to
You!
Realize just how
much you are paying for a job and certainly ask if the hire is
not directly with your future employer.
Paying
recruiters is not uncommon around the world, especially
where ESL teachers are in short supply. But in
most countries the deal is between the school and the
recruiter - for a ONE TIME ONLY payment - that is
usually only a portion of one month's wages.
ASK
Any time you are
offered any sort of "guaranteed job placement" for any
reason - ask about how it works and if you will receive
full wages for your work. It is only fair that you
be informed.
